Supply chain IT portfolio manager required to join a major household brand name retail house. This role DEFINITELY requires a retail background in order to have credibility on the team. Context & Purpose: The client provides IT solutions and service delivery to a number of their operating companies. The purpose of the Portfolio Manager role is to lead a team of project managers (3rd party and internal), being accountable for the delivery of IT work products as part of wider business change initiatives. The Portfolio Manager will monitor and report on project progress, will act as the first point of escalation for any project issues and will take responsibility for their timely resolution. The scope of project delivery work undertaken by the Project Managers within the team will encompass both application and infrastructure changes forthe client and their operating companies. Key responsibilities: Management of third party development partners Selection of the appropriate resources & suppliers to deliver the projects Understand the needs of the Portfolio Liaise with the Portfolio Architect to ensure that the IT applications and supporting infrastructure fully support the business requirements Close liaison with the Think Managers to effectively plan, manage and report progress on delivery of their portfolios Portfolio dependency management Management of stakeholders in conjunction with the Think Manager Accountable for successful delivery of all projects within the Portfolio Ensure projects are set up for success, resourced appropriately and delivered on time, to budget and at the appropriate level of quality. Act as escalation point for project or portfolio risks and issues. Where these threaten to derail a project, take ownership and ensure all possible steps to put the project back on track are taken Represent the client as the Senior Supplier in all project meetings related to the Portfolio Work with the UK Programme Manager and peer group to manage efficiently the UK Programme Strong leadership and line management of project managers aligned with the Portfolio Close liaison with the project management office to ensure that the UK pipeline plan is always up to date and the effect of priority changes is understood in advance of any decisions being made Person Specification: Excellent communication, engagement & stakeholder management skills Tenacious, with the ability to drive through projects to successful and timely completion in a difficult environment Very good leadership skills and able to motivate a team of internal & 3rd party project managers Substantial project management experience including PRINCE 2 Practitioner and knowledge of EPM Strong planner and with ability to spot tenuous links and dependencies Ability to dive in to detail and drive problem resolution when required Substantial IT development experience within a professional IT function, including experience of the full development lifecycle Creative thinker with strong problem solving skills Good liaison & relationship building skills within both business and systems functions and with external suppliers Demonstrable experience of line managing a team of IT professionals: Red Prairie skillset would be beneficial |
