UNIX Engineer

Whitehall Resources are currently looking for a Unix Engineer based in Essex for an initial 3 month contract.

Please note this role has been deemed INSIDE IR35.

This client requires someone who is SC Cleared or SC Eligible.

Job Spec:

As a Unix Engineer, you will be responsible for ensuring our systems are working as part of the Vision work for Securing our Technical future, identifying problems and analysing system faults.

Task Description:
As a Unix Engineer, you will be responsible for ensuring the clients systems are working as part of the Vision work for securing our Technical future, identifying problems and analysing system faults.

You will also work within a highly technical environment and you must be able to work under pressure meeting legislative and ministerial dates. You must be capable of using your own initiative to make decisions and ultimately achieve objectives.

Tasks:
You will also be working within a server environment using a mix of Solaris, AIX, RHEL and CentOS, with a small number of Windows. Working within the Platform team responsible for the administration of physical and virtual systems in a DevOps Sys Admin role

Implementation of systems to comply with security and disaster recovery strategy including separation of duties

Working on specific, targeted projects to deliver consistent, maintainable solutions

Addressing incident tickets & service requests from internal customers and performing the necessary troubleshooting and remedial work to fix issues

Assist other members of the Platform team sharing your skills and knowledge to ensure a coherent and standard approach is maintained in building and supporting Analytics, Reporting and Risking services within

Produce and maintain documentation on collaboration environments for systems and services.

Provide a mix of level 2 and level 3 technical support and diagnostic assistance to support and development colleagues;

Management and monitoring of systems to ensure that issues are quickly identified and resolved providing preemptive and reactive maintenance

Working with configuration management tool to produce consistent system builds and Remedy non-compliant systems;
– Participate in system upgrades
– Migration of service to Cloud
– On Call support 24×7 (rota based)
– Automation of manual activities

Mandatory Technical Skills:
– Shell scripting
– Experience administering UNIX and Linux Servers
– Support, maintenance & tuning skills
– Good working knowledge of large scale SAN
– Working with Change Control and central configuration management
Systems

Mandatory Business Skills:
– Eligible for SC Clearance
– Excellent written and verbal communication skills
– A good team player with an ability to adapt to changing priorities
