Infrastructure Engineer - VMWare, Citrix

Infrastructure Engineer – VMWare, Citrix required by Whitehall Resources for an initial 4 month contract based in Greater London

Skills and Experience required;

– 5+ years of IT infrastructure technical implementation experience
– Direct involvement in working with internal and external teams to engineer, implement, and support configurations – hardware, software and services
– 5+ years engineering experience related to x86 technical offerings such as VMware, Microsoft, and Citrix
– Advanced and proven track record of engineering and supporting highly available Citrix environments involving XenApp and/or XenDesktop. (Citrix Certified Professional – Virtualization (CCP – V) highly preferred)
– Technical Knowledge on VMware product line (vSphere, Horizon View in particular) and, SQL. (VCP – VMware Certified Professional highly preferred)
– Extensive skills with Windows Networking, Active Directory, and profile management
– Networking concepts (TCP/IP, Routing, Firewalls, Network Security)
– Thorough understanding of enterprise datacenter technologies including Networking, Security, TCP/IP, SAN and NAS,physical datacenter practices
– Demonstrated ability to assess, implement and troubleshoot IT Infrastructure systems and configurations in the designated practice using procedures, scripts, and templates
– Demonstrated engineering expertise (gather requirements, problem solve and recommend) in mid-sized and Fortune 1000 customer environments
– Demonstrable experience supporting and managing large enterprise environments, marrying complex business requirements to progressive design solutions, and overseeing the transition to production.
– Broad understanding of both server and desktop/application virtualization.

Advantageous Skills and Experience;

– Command line, PowerShell and other scripting for administration and support – experience with automation products (Chef, Puppet, Ansible, VMware vRO)
– Experience with and working knowledge of Storage Area Networks
– Experience working with any of the following: Thinapp, AppLayering,Appsense
– Cloud solutions or certifications AzureAWS

Degree: Bachelors in Computer Science or equivalent work experience.

Role responsibilities;

– Assist with the project of migration applications from AIG G2 (XenApp 6.5/Server 2008 R2) to AIG G3 (XenApp 7.15/Server 2016) platform.
– Build out additional XenApp servers or convert existing G2 VMs to G3 to host the applications
– Assist application teams in testing and troubleshooting application deployments from a Citrix and AppV infrastructure standpoint
– Assist in the migrating of applications from G2 to G3
– Tracking and reporting of application migrations
– Decommissioning applications in G2
– Assess and implement a series of improvements highlighted in a 3rd party review
– Assess, design and implement a series of improvements to the shared VDI service
– Assist in addressing several businesses as usual (BAU) operational issues with the existing service – working closely with the business-aligned IT teams and users
– Work along aside other infrastructure towers to address supporting issues
– Support a series of published app migrations
– Build out additional XenApp servers or convert existing G2 VMs to G3 to host the applications
– Assist application teams in testing and troubleshooting application deployments from a Citrix and AppV infrastructure standpoint
– Migrate applications from G2 to G3
– Tracking and reporting of application migrations
– Decommissioning applications in G2
– Support complex system configurations and standards for Citrix, VMware and MS HyperV platforms
– Assess, recommend, plan, and implement complex VDI / App Delivery Virtualization projects using various technologies
– Develop repeatable standards and implementation processes to ensure product unifor
